A message from this year’s chair

Welcome to the Churches Together in Bishop’s Stortford (CTBS) website.

Christians from the various churches in Bishop’s Stortford have a long history of joining with each other to pray, worship, study God’s word and work together as we seek, in unity, to celebrate and show God’s love by carrying out His purposes in our local community:-

We worship together at the CTBS Service of Unity, marking the National and International Week of Prayer for Christian Unity.

We meet together during Lent in Inter-church Home-groups to study God’s Word;

We worship together and participate in the Walk of Witness through the town centre on Good Friday;

We pray together for the needs of our community and the wider world during the Bishop’s Stortford Week of Prayer in May;

We witness together at the Bishop’s Stortford Carnival in June and

We work together in the local community throughout the year in the many, many activities in which Christians of the town are involved –  Holiday Bible Week,Bishop’s Stortford Foodbank, Winter Night Shelter, Company At Christmas,Street Pastors, Contact Centre, Money Advice Service, Thirst Cafe to name but a few. Altogether CTBS has about 16 Associate Members. These may be groups of Christians working together to promote and organise events on behalf of CTBS such as those already mentioned, or they may be groups of Christians who represent and/or work for a wider Christian organisation at a local level egChristian Aid, YMCA, Stort Valley Schools’ Trust.

By all these means we acknowledge that by working together “as one body” we can achieve far more than any single congregation and we can share resources and best practice. Above all, we can demonstrate the power of God’s unconditional love for us all as He makes all things possible through the love and sacrifice of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Saviour.
